Bitchin in the Kitchen with Lucy Belle #37 Candy Corn Treats!

Y’all I just love candy corn, especially when mixed with  salted peanuts. It tastes like a Payday candy bar. YUM. Now here are some more fun candy corn ideas that I found on the web while I was setting in the Tourist Center waiting for tourist at the (ESVLMLLLCCLMWHSTK)  Edna St. Vincent LeMay Memorial Laundromat, Library, Community Center and now Lint Museum, Wifi Hot Spot and Tourist Kiosk.

Of course Martha never lets us down and shares these so simple candy corn cookies.

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, very soft
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour, (spooned and leveled)
  • About 36 candy corns

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter and sugar in a medium bowl; beat with a wooden spoon until combined. Beat in egg yolk, vanilla, baking powder, and salt. Add flour, and mix until a dough forms.
  2. Scoop out level teaspoons of dough, and roll into balls (chill dough briefly if it becomes too soft to handle). Place balls on baking sheets, 2 inches apart.
  3. Bake, rotating sheets halfway through, until edges are firm and cookies are dry to the touch (do not let cookies color), 10 to 12 minutes.
  4. Remove from oven; gently press a candy corn into center of each cookie (surface of cookies may crack slightly). Cool on sheets 1 minute; transfer to a rack to cool completely.

Want something totally delicious? Homebased Mom has outdone herself with this Candy Corn Bark — oh my!

Candy Corn Cookie Bark

14 whole Oreos, broken up.  I used the Halloween ones with the orange filling but regular will work fine

1 1/2 C pretzels, broken into pieces.  I used the small stick pretzels

1 lb. white chocolate, almond bark or melts found in the bulk food section

1 C candy corn

brown and orange colored sprinkles

Cover a large cookie sheet with wax paper.  Spread broken cookes, pretzels and about 3/4 C of the candy corn onto the waxed paper.  Place white chocolate in a container and microwave for 1 1/2 minutes.  Stir and then microwave for another 30 seconds until melted and smooth.  White chocolate melts faster and burns easier than chocolate.

Drizzle the melted chocolate over the cookie mixture, spreading with spatula if needed to coat evenly.  Sprinkle remaining candy corn and colored sprinkles over the chocolate while it is still wet.  Do not let it harden.  Place

cookie tray into refrigerator until set and firm.  Remove and gently break bark into small pieces.  Store in air tight container.

Adults might like a Candy Corn Cordial with candy corn infused vodka from the Food Network. You know that Drag Queens love Vodka, put candy in it and it will be twice as good!!

Ingredients

For the infused vodka:

  • 1/2 cup candy corn
  • 1 1/2 cups vodka

For the cordials:

  • 2 ounces orange liqueur
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 large egg white
  • Candy corn, for garnish

Directions

Infuse the vodka: Combine the candy corn and vodka in an airtight container; set aside for at least 3 hours, then strain.

Make the cordials: Add 4 ounces of the candy corn vodka, the orange liqueur, lemon juice and egg white to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds. Strain into 2 chilledmartini glasses and garnish with candy corn.

This should give you some ideas of what to do with that boring Candy Corn! Don’t forget that we will be doing our Annual Leaf Peepin’ Cider Sippin’ Revue Show  on Oct. 13th at 7pm, 9pm, and 11pm in the Frank Lloyd Wright Room inside of Three Needs located at 185 Pearl Street! Tickets will be $10.

October is LGBT History Month

Local Color – Seen at the Vermont Pride Celebration 9/22/12

Bitchin in the Kitchen with Lucy Belle #36

Hey Y’all! Here is my non-award winning recipe for “Chocolate Pride”! This is the cupcake that I entered in the Decadent Cupcake Competition sponsored by Vermont Gay Tourism Assoc. during the PRIDE Festival this past weekend. Now this recipe is from scratch.

That’s right I scratched it right out of a box. You know Drag Queens like to keep it simple. Here is what you will need:

12 cupcake baking cups
1 box of Betty Crockers cookies and cream cupcake mix, follow the instructions on the box.
1 can of Pillsbury Chocolate Fudge Frosting and it comes with its own Funfetti (candy confetti in rainbow colors)

Preheat your oven as instructed on the box of mix.Follow the instructions on the box for mixing the cupcake batter, it is very easy! Let the cupcakes cool completly and then spread the frosting on the cupcakes and sprinkle with the Funfetti!

Now you have yourself a Sweet Treat! I would like to congratulate the Winner of the  competition. They had 11 contestants and all the cupcakes looked delicious! I wonder if any of the judges found that nail I lost?

Vermont PRIDE Weekend 2012

What a Great PRIDE Y’all! Us Drag Queens from Beaver Pond, Vt. would like to Thank  the Pride Committee for a FUN filled weekend even if we did have to wait till  September.  The House of LeMay started on Friday night performing on the annual VGSA Pride Cruise

and dancing the night away on Lake Champlain with DJ Veena.

On Sat. we were in the Parade that went up Church Street in Burlington Vermont with Rainbow Flags everywhere and the crowd was fabulous! We have to Thank Isreal for driving us in his Jeep!

The parade ended in Battery Park for the Pride Festival where we also performed for the crowd. We also heard from Lyric Theatre who will be doing RENT in Nov. They had vendors from all over Vermont and I had cupcakes in the Northern Decadent Cupcake Competition!

I did not win but they had 11 entries and I found out that Darren from WCAX was one of the judges.

We just love Darren back in Beaver Pond, Vt. We heard from Governor Madelyn spoke to the crowd about how wonderful this state is.

We headed back to Beaver Pond but the festivities cont. Our friends Bob and Johnnie went to Red Square for the Burly Bear Beer Bash that looked like a lot of fun with DJ’s Alan Perry, Rob Douglas and Craig Mitchell playing some of the hottest music for the crowd.

Later Sat. Night they went out to Higher Ground in South Burlington for the PRIDE Party ” Farm Fresh” where DJ Veena had the crowd dancing all night long.
