Mardi Gras in Burlington, Vermont
Hey Y’all, Lucy Belle here at the Edna Saint Vincent LeMay Memorial Laundromat, Library, Community Center and now Lint Museum, Tourist Kiosk and WIFI HotSpot taking care of a load and checking my email and facebook and thought I should put up some of our past photos from Mardi Gras Parades in Burlington, Vt. which benefits the Women’s Rape Crisis Center.
You know this year Amber and I will not be in Burlington for the Annual Magic Hat Mardi Gras Parade because we will be in New Orleans for the real thing.
We have attended Magic Hat’s Annual Mardi Gras Parade since 2000. Let me show you some pictures from our first Mardi Gras Parade.
Here I am with my escort. The House of LeMay had a float in the Parade. We had a large group with us that year and we were all dressed in Renaissance Outfits that Margaurite made us.
In 2001 we did not have a float butt, I was on the 135 Pearl float, for those of you that don’t remember. 135 Pearl was the Gay Bar.
That night at 135 Pearl the House of LeMay held the first Drag Queen Survivor. We had the Drag Queens go onto Church Street to collect signatures and items from dept. stores and local bars.
This was the first time that some of the these Drag Queens ever thought about going out of the Gay Bar onto Church Street. Boy was that a FUN night! In 2002 the House of LeMay decided we would do our own float again. The theme of the float was ” We Got Magic To Do”.
After the Parade we gathered at Pearls to warm up and have a cocktail before heading down Church Street.
2003 was another fun year and we again had a float.
We also played Drag Queen Survivor again. This time we had two teams,
The Whores…
and The Sluts.
Here is our float and group for 2004. It was going into an election year and…
our hearts were broken because Howard Dean had just dropped out of the Democrat Primary.
We did have our picture taken with a few politicians that year
And with the owner of Magic Hat himself.
Our float theme for 2005 was Seeing Stars.
The next year 2006 was the first year that it snowed on us and it was cold. We had our little float and went up Church Street with the rest of them. Mayor Clavelle came by to say Hey!
After the Parades we always go Bar Hopping and stop for photos on Church Street.
In 2007 we decided not to have a float, so Amber and I made some Jello Shots and walked to the Hood Plant parking lot, that’s where they get ready for the Parade.
We visited with all the fun folks and passed out a few Jello Shots and then…
We made it to Church Street before the Parade and watched from Red Square then
went over to RiRa’s to see one of our favorite bartenders.
Amber what are you doing! Well, after this picture was taken we were asked nicely to leave.
In 2008 we went as a Six Pack of Magic Hat Beer. I was Number 9, Amber was Mother Larger Lager, Maggie was Fat Angel and we had Circus Boy, Licky Lucky Cat, and Hockus Pokus with us.
Now in 2009 we brought out the “Leaque of Drag Queen Voters”. We played on Church Street that year and had a lot of fun!
We returned to RiRa’s and was Welcomed with open arms!
Here we are in 2010 having a lot fun and watching the Parade from Red Square with DJ Alan Perry.
Happy Mardi Gras Y’all !! We will send you some pictures from New Orleans!
